Hyundai’s got a brand new SUV, the adorable 2020 Venue! The 2020 Hyundai Venue is the smallest crossover they’ve made and it is super affordable. Plus it gets great gas mileage, up to 30 mpg in the city and up to 34 mpg on the highway.
I flew down to Miami for a few days and drove the Venue all the way out to the Florida Keys on one of the days. It’s so beautiful down there and I wish I had the time to do some water sports. I’ve heard that kayaking in the Florida Keys is amazing. We did stop and have lunch at a really neat place, Morado Bay. We also stopped at a random road side attraction with lots of animals! It was called Robert is Here Fruit Stand and Farm. They had massive tortoises.
Affordable
The best part of the Venue is by far the price. If you are a young millennial looking to buy a new suv or maybe a parent looking for a teenager or a college student, the Venue deserves a serious look.
The base-level Venue starts out at $17,350 and it comes with standard features like an 8.0-inch color touchscreen display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and Hyundai SmartSense. For the price of a used car, you can have a brand new SUV instead! If you go with the highest trim level you are looking at spending $22,050.
No matter what trim level you get they are all front-wheel drive, powered by a 1.6-liter engine producing 121 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission (Yes, I just typed manual!) or automatic Smartstream IVT (Intelligent Variable transmission). I found it to have good acceleration for a quick take off. There is no AWD version available but if you upgrade to the mid trim level you will have a snow mode. In snow mode the car is able to sense what it needs to do and changes traction as needed.
Technology
The trim levels come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, an AM/FM/HD audio system with 6 speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. Plus, if you upgrade to the higher trim level it has Blue Link capabilities.
Blue Link
I wanted to expand a bit on Blue Link since it was new to me, I am guessing it might be new to you as well. Hyundai’s Blue Link system integrates with Amazon Alexa and/or Google Assistant. You can ask Alexa or Google Assistant, Amazon Echo, or Google Home to start the car! Voice commands are sent to Hyundai vehicles after Alexa or Google Home prompts owners for their Blue Link Personal Identification Number (PIN). Additionally, Hyundai has enhanced the Remote Start with Climate Control feature to include control of the rear defroster and heated side mirrors (if equipped) into the Blue Link mobile app and the all-new MyHyundai.com. How cool is that!
Safety
As I mentioned above all trim levels of the Venues have Hyundai SmartSense as a standard feature, which includes:
- Forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection
- Lane-keeping assist
- Driver attention warning
- Pedestrian detection
- Back up camera
Plus, it’s made of high strength steel. In the photo above the red represents the high strength steel.
Second Row
I’m not going to lie to you, the second row is not spacious. This SUV was made with urban areas in mind which means it is small. The second row is the one that really took the hit, but keep in mind my drive partner and I both had our seat upfront pushed all the way back.
Trunk Space
The Venue does have decent trunk space. The rear seats do fold down60/40, so can have even more trunk space if needed.
