2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is a low maintenance crossover, available in several models: the S, Sport, SEL, and Wolfsburg. They are all great, but I drove the SEL Edition. They are priced lower than the VW Touareg, starting at $22,995, but still have the same “uumph” as any small SUV or crossover on the market. The SEL with 4Motion I drove was priced at $37,870.00

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Design

This car is designed so sleekly that even without the VW symbol, it even looks like it belongs in the Volkswagen family. It has a similar exterior design as the Volkswagen Golf, but in a hatchback form. It has such clean lines with a longer and leaner body, yet it has a tough looking exterior that differs than your everyday hatchback.

Inside the Tiguan you will find the type of quality that only Volkswagen can deliver. It’s almost like that of an Audi or any other premium brand, but just a little bit simpler and very well thought out as only Volkswagen does.VW Tiguan

The Tiguan also has pretty impressive fuel economy stats too! Check this out, you can run around town getting about 20 mpg and when you hit the highway you are looking at 24 mpg. Not too bad for an all-wheel-drive model.

Let’s talk about the inside. Oh, and the incredible 56 cubic square feet of cargo space when the back seats are folded down. So, when I need to move some small pieces of furniture or have a large grocery run, I am all set with the Tiguan.Volkswagen Tiguan I love the sporty cabin seats and love that both the front and second-row seats slide and tilt backward, so we can all get comfy on a long road trip! You can sit three people in the second row with the full size middle seat. The back row also has air and a charging port, both of which I think are must haves. Some of the other things loved about the inside were the small cubbies for extra storage, including the bin under the floor and a dual-compartment glove box.2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

Base Model

Now, what comes standard? With the base S model you get 16-inch alloy wheels, an “infotainment” system with a 6.3-inch screen, USB and Bluetooth, HD and satellite radio, a rearview camera, heated seats, a trailer hitch prep kit, and keyless access and keyless ignition.  I also loved the fact that the base model included automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers too! You don’t get that with a lot of base models these days. I know what you might be thinking, “Who cares about rain sensing wipers?”. The answer: people that live in Portland, Oregon like me! It rains so much this might just have been my favorite feature! Even my kids were impressed.

Favorite Features

If I really wanted to treat myself, I would go for the SEL Edition, because this is the one I test drove. Check out my favorite features:

  • Leather seating – I prefer leather with kids. It’s easy to clean up.
  • Automatic climate control
  • Navigation system
  • Fender Audio System
  • Power folding door mirrors
  • All Wheel Drive
  • Panoramic sunroof – This sunroof was massive! Living in Portland we need as much Vitamin D as possible. We could all get some driving around in here if the sun would just come out.

Most of us know that we can’t go wrong with any Volkswagen, but there is something special about the Tiguan. I loved so many things about it and I am glad that they have decided to continue to make this one, because the 2017 is one of the most comfortable (and sporty!) crossovers on the road.
